Twice in a week...can it be?

Distance: 1.76 miles
Time: 0:25:02
Pace: 14' 13 min/mile

Got a full 1/10 mile further in the same time. Felt it, too, lol.

HR function on my Garmin seems to have quit. I will Google this when I have a minute and investigate.

Peace!

C25K - W2 D1, D2; Vermont; Garmin Woes

Spent two days Vermont! And even went out to continue C25K despite the ice cream and quesadillas, the make-your-own-Belgian-Waffles, and the ice cream (did I mention the ice cream?).

Weather was cloudy/rainy the whole coupla days. Garmin did not find the satellite until--wouldn't you know it--just after I hit the "Stop" button. Whatever. And going out, I even ran up a slight hill (I usually don't do hills, my town is super flat), which made the return trip DOWN the hill a breeze. What a beautiful state, breathtaking.

So C25K W2D1: Distance about 1.43 miles; time, about 18 min.
and today, back home, I just did C25K W2D2. Same approx distance, same approx time. Felt good today, humidity and all.

OH, and I just got a new pair of running shoes today! Basically the same model as the old ones, wow, they are cushier. My old ones had about 450 miles on them, guess it was time.

Garmin issues, hmmmm. I broke the cardinal rule of updating software when stuff isn't broken...I signed up for the free Motion Based, where your Garmin just uploads your data to a website (I just liked the map feature, you could map your runs a la google maps, I am a sucker for a good map). It made me download some sort of Motion Based software, which said my Garmin software needed to be updated, so I did. And now, I can't get my data off my Garmin, the error message says Garmin Trainer is having trouble "connecting to the device." It makes that little ding ding noise when I plug Garmin into the USB port, so I know it's connected. I "restored" my system to pre-software updates, but no avail. So I'll start googling and try to figure this out, grrrrr. Technology, can't live with it, can't live without it.

HH Intermdiate 5K - Week 2, Day 1

3.25 miles
44:30 (13:41/mile)
6:15 am
73 degrees, 77% humidity

Annoyed @ my Garmin. I stepped outside this am and turned it on and got some weird screen about "beep intervals" or something or other. Turned it off & on and all was well. Until it didn't pick up satellite until halfway through my 3 miler. And then until I got home and it laughed at me and said, "Ha! You didn't run July 10! Your last run was July 8!" So, um, Garmin, if I hauled my carcass out of bed @ 5:45 on my summer vacation, I want the credit for it, ok??? Grrr. I hope the thing is ok.

Had to run early or it wasn't going to happen. Patting myself on the back since I got back from rehearsal @ 11:30 and still managed to get up, woo hoo. Kept my HR in Zones 3 & 4 until the end. There might be something to this taking it slow until the end business.

Going to be hot next few days. It'll be morning or nothing.

Daylight with the Kiddo

2.50 miles
30:12 (12:04/mile)

Snuck in my run again in the daylight with my 5 yr old son at the HS track! It was 37, GREAT weather! I think Garmin weirded out on me...I ran 10 times around track (Lanes 5,4,3,2,1 and repeated, so inside and outside) yet it said I only ran 2.28 miles. Um, I want credit for every INCH I run! Unless the track isn't real 1/4 of a mile, in which case I would be extremely depressed about the false sense of amazing distance I have travelled in the last six months:-P

Still planning on going for 8 on Saturday or Sunday. Give me strength (and endurance).

Snuck in 2 miles

Had a last minute extra-curricular obligation today, so only had time for a 23 minute run before I had to get kiddos. I was in such a rush to get out to the run that I forgot to strap on the HR monitor of the Garmin. Gotta work that into my routine, I guess. Downed some Jelly Belly sport beans as I was getting changed for the run, and then joy of joys, it was a decent 23 minutes, uneventful, my favorite kind of run.

2 miles
23:01 (11:30/mile)

Picked up Marathoning for Mortals, by "The Penguin," John Bingham this weekend (with a Borders coupon, woo hoo) and am devouring it. I will put together a modified Galloway/Mortals HM plan and see how it goes. The plans are similar except the longest run Galloway has on the books is a 15 miler, whereas Bingham's longest is a 10 miler. I would feel better running further than the distance of the HM at least once before the actual race, but I will see how the training progresses.

Today the doubts are subsiding a little. But I am supposed to run 8 miles, my longest to date, this weekend. Not sure how that will work, not sure if I will actually do 8 if I am not Gallowalking. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

EDITED TO ADD: Neese tagged me for an ABC about me post, I will get on that tout de suite, I promise!

Christened the Garmin

Here are the stats:
3 miles 35:56 (11:58/mile)

It was over 60 degrees, 80-something % humidity. Felt like summer. Not your typical Jersey January, that's for sure.

Not an easy run. BUT....I ran one mile then walked one minute. Then ran another mile and walked 2 min. Then ran another mile. No funky heart stuff, but I discovered that even at a "slow" pace (like 12 and 13 mm), my HR spent most of the time in Zone 5. Too high! I thought the thing was malfunctioning, lol. So wonder of wonders, I need to slow down.

Running with the Garmin will be fun, and I expect I'll learn a lot about my body.

Edited To Add: RUNNING GOALS 2007
Running Goals:
1. Register for AND FINISH that HM in April
2. Run a 10K
3. Prepare for Disney 2008 HM. It's my dream:-)

And I just ordered a Garmin 305 yesterday. Used some Christmas money (thanks Mom & Dad) and money from my holiday job to fund it, woo hoo!

Slow & Steady

2.82 miles
34:28 (12:13/mile)

Ran all but one short minute walk break at 6:00. Ran the rest of the way, woo hoo. Slowly, because I was starved leading up to this run, hadn't eaten anything since about 9 hrs earlier. I was either going to fall asleep or run, so I am glad I did the run. Also glad I changed it up and just ran slowly without regular walk breaks for once.

Re: comments about the heart racing thing (which was not present tonight), I do not wear a HR monitor. I am asking Santa for a Garmin 205 (or cheaper model) but I don't think it has a HR monitor...may reconsider after seeing doc in a few weeks. Thanks for the suggestions about slowing down & breathing I tried to focus on that tonight as well.

Funny, running without walk breaks tonight left my legs much more tired at the end. Things that make you go "Hmmmmm."
