Ran with my kid:-)

Getting back into it, this time I had a 6 year old running partner! Both clad in our Rutgers hats, we took to the streets. R60 seconds, Walk 30 seconds, yeah, lame, but it is all I can muster right now. Man, a month of no running really takes a toll on the old endurance. But I loved running with my son:-) On one of our walk breaks, he even said, "Hey Mom, we're pals." I told him yep, ok, but I'm also the Mommy, too. And he said, "Yeah, like when I talk back, THEN you're the Mommy!" I don't like sass from my kids, lol.

Some updates:
1. DH & I raised over $600 in our overnight Relay for Life walk this past weekend. And the kicker is our partner, teammate and youth group co-leader--who raised the most money again this year in our town for RFL and whose mom also died of breast cancer--she's age 36 and was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Age 36. What is going on, ugh. Your prayers/positive thoughts for Amy would be appreciated if you are the praying or positive energy type.

2. I passed my crazy test and will soon be awarded a MA in French Literature. Only took seven years....

3. I am now rehearsing (acting, singing, dancing) a community theater musical, because I wasn't doing enough, ha.

4. My boy & I are going to do a local 5K next month.

I am working on new running goals. Most immediate goal is to get back up to 3 miles, R10/W1, that will take some doing.

Peace to you all.

Thanksgiving 8K!!!!!!!!!

...with a 1 mile fun run w/my son beforehand. I think I held him back, at the 1/2 mile mark, I told him to just go on, I knew my dh would be at the Finish, and so my 6 year old finished in around 10 min and I finished in around 11--he waited for me at the Finish line, too cute:-)

But wow, dumb move, running a mile and then running an 8K (especially not having run in 2 weeks)...in the first mile of the 8K the legs were already sore. I finished at the back of the pack, of course, 10 minutes slower than last year; I was thanking all the cops holding traffic and the water stop volunteers, the residents out in front of their houses going "C'mon, you're looking good" (when I was about 15 minutes behind the lead); I "Happy Thanksgiving-ed" everyone I saw...I was glad to just be out there again.

And my dh & kids shared it with me. So for being able to finish 6 miles, and for my family to be with me, well I am grateful on this Thanksgiving.

Peace to everyone and Happy Thanksgiving. Off for some extra turkey now that I burned about 800 calories YEAH!

Track fun with the kiddo--sort of

Beautiful, 57 degree day, took kiddo to track where I had a frustrating but then ok run. Frustrating in that the kid wants to run a 5K with me in June ("I want to run the race with Mommy"), so I was trying to run slowly with him, SLOWLY!, but my dear 5 year old thinks he's Lightening McQueen (the speedster in Disney Pixar's CARS movie), so he spurts way ahead then stops, waiting for me! Aaaah! After about 3/4 mile of him darting ahead & getting all out of breath, then me stopping and saying, "I'm not running if you won't run slowly next to me" I just let it go and let him run how he wants to--he's five, right?!? We were fine after that. Funny thing was, when I let it go and just basically said, "Run how you want," he stayed with me! Things that make you go Hmmmmmm. He ended up doing 6 laps, then got bored and ate his fruit snacks while I did two more laps, which were fun:-) That was all I had time for, we got a late start due to a school meeting, so we had to go pick up my little guy.

Long run of some sort this weekend. I am aiming for 13 miles. Aaaaaahhh. And where the heck does one purchase Gu?

Mid-Week Recovery

A labored run, it was hot (77!!!), but I'm not stressing, as I'm resting on my 11.5 mile long run laurels:-)

Here is what I did:-)
2.56 miles
32:53 (12:50/mile)

I'm getting excited for the HM. I feel like each run I get out for now will hopefully make each mile of the HM just a little bit easier ((crosses fingers)). Two more long runs to go!

There is a 5K in our town in June...my five year old said he wants to run the race with Mommy. Soooo, on Thursday's track run, we'll see if he can go around the track, say, 8 times, walking as necessary. If he can do it, I'll try to help him do a little more each time (1x/week). And maybe I will do the 5K with my little guy with time as no object. Must look much more into little kids running!!

Track fun with the kiddo

Got in a run at the track with my son:-) He ran about a mile and a half, took some walk breaks but has seemingly endless energy! Here's what I did:
2.50 miles
29:38 (11:51/mile)

Love going to the track with him, makes it more fun. We yell and wave at each other across the track, "race" each other, play with the lane numbers and just have a beautiful, simple half hour in the fresh air:-)

Daylight with the Kiddo

2.50 miles
30:12 (12:04/mile)

Snuck in my run again in the daylight with my 5 yr old son at the HS track! It was 37, GREAT weather! I think Garmin weirded out on me...I ran 10 times around track (Lanes 5,4,3,2,1 and repeated, so inside and outside) yet it said I only ran 2.28 miles. Um, I want credit for every INCH I run! Unless the track isn't real 1/4 of a mile, in which case I would be extremely depressed about the false sense of amazing distance I have travelled in the last six months:-P

Still planning on going for 8 on Saturday or Sunday. Give me strength (and endurance).

Shut up and run, Wannabe

Too much thinking on my last post. I've decided I can't change everything overnight; I will run longer stretches (thanks, JavaMom) but will surely still need [less frequent] walk breaks since I am a newbie pushing-40-adult-onset-athlete-wannabe-HMer.

In short, I am just going to shut up and run for a while.

Here are the stats for today's SUPER daylight run:
3 miles

39:18 (13:06/mile)

No walk breaks today, woo hoo. 5 yr old son was "helping" me by counting down my laps, running around the track himself and giving me hugs at the end of each lap--between his running with me holding my hand and "racing" the various runners and walkers on the local track, the kid seriously must have done two miles. And somehow, the men playing football on the field and the other grownups circling the track, well, they all knew his name by the end of our time there because he was a pip:-)

In conclusion, it was not a fast run, but a a solid jog and a priceless 39 minutes of mommy-son time:-)
