HH Intermdiate 5K - Week 3, Day 2

Should have been Day 3, but it was a hot one yesterday. Oh well...

It was "SPEED" WORK day! I did 10 x 200.

Except for confusing the "Lap" and the "Stop/Start" buttons on the Garmin, well, it was a great workout:-) Only wanted to vomit and/or faint once, ha!

Here's how it went down:
My button confusion happened for the first 5 reps. After running each 200, I stopped the clock on each recovery 200, instead of hitting "lap," duh. The total for the 5 run reps was: 6:25 (avg = 1:17 per run 200--I started in the outside lanes).

Rep 1:
?
Rep 2:
?
Rep 3:
?
Rep 4:
?
Rep 5:
?
W 200 - 1:56 - This is when I figured out my Garmin stupidity.
Rep 6:
R 200 - 1:11 (9:09/mile pace!)
W 200 - 2:00
Rep 7:
R 200 - 1:13 (9:29/mile pace)
W 200 - 2:01
Rep 8:
R 200 - 1:08 (9:00/mile pace)
W 200 - 2:00
Rep 9:
R 200 - 1:06 (8:46/mile pace)
W 200 - 2:03
Rep 10:
R 200 - 1:04 (8:34/mile pace)
W 200 - 2:13

Total: 2.03 miles
approx. 28:24 (13:59/mile)

HERE is where I am setting my future sights, think....
1. 5K at the end of my current plan: High Speed Chase for the Cure at Rutgers, go RU and to raise $$ against cancer, win/win.
2. A local 5K to raise $$ for two local kids who have been stricken with Leukemia:-(
3. The date looks good for the Philadelphia HM (run concurrently with the Philadelphia Marathon), so I'm tossing that around my brain for a bit...

The Play Was the Thing

First ten performances of a theatrical play, then a week of play with the family at Disney World.

But after about 3 weeks without running, I'm back.

Here's what I finally mustered up tonight:
2 miles
25:00 (12:30/mile)

I kicked it into overdrive in the last 1/4 mile and actually hit a 8.6 minute mile for about two seconds, ha!

The spirit is moving me, I want to run a half. I want to run a half. Not sure if I should pick up where I left off--HH Intermediate 5K Week 3--jump to Week 6 where I would be had I been able to run in the last three weeks...or just bail on the 5K program and pick up a HM program.

The heart wants to just bail and start a HM program, but something about not finishing is not sitting right with me. So I'll see the 5K program through and maybe jump into a HM program later. There, glad I talked myself through that.

On the Road Again

Went out for a nearly 2 miler tonight. For a lot of reasons. Because I needed to clear my head after a 3-day weekend of overstimulation for my kids, who were very tightly wound as a result. Because dh & I had spent 2 hours chasing them around at a church BBQ, which was supposed to be fun & fellowship, but turned out to be "that railing is broken, watch it," and "don't take that ball from that baby," and "watch out, that's poison ivy", and "give it back," and, well, you get the idea.

So that's what sent me out the door tonight, but mostly it was just time to get back on the road again.

So here's what I did:
1.92 miles
22:35 (11:45/mile)
80 degrees--Tough run tonight!!!

Will be sporadic now that play rehearsal has begun and school winds down--but I notice in my yearly stats that I need to get in 20 more miles by the end of June in order to stay the course of meeting my little goal of 400 miles run this year; hope I can get those miles in. I need a new race to train for to push me out the door more often. I am thinking of the West Chester HM, we shall see how this summer plays out. I still harbor hopes of running a marathon some day (thanks Full Metal Lunch Box for putting THAT bee in my bonnet) but I need to get a clean HM in first. And heck, I love neese's plan of getting faster before tackling the bigger distances. I dunno, but I got back on the road again tonight. Baby steps.
