HH Intermdiate 5K - Week 8, Day 1 - First day of school

Murphy's Law rant: School starts today and my beloved coffee maker seems to have broken. So I put it out to pasture and bought a shiny new one last night. As I unpacked the shiny new one, the caraffe slipped and BROKE. AAAAHHHH. Brand new! How can I have no coffee the first day of school, hard enough to go back after two months off, but sans coffee?? That is double torture!

Ok, my short run at 6am this morning, not easy, prob due to the humidity, I'll chalk it up to that.
2. miles
25:14 (12:37/mile)
Temp: 64 Humidity: 87%

Off to teacher meetings and to make a zillion copies for the kiddo's first day tomorrow. Good thing is, this is my first day of my fourth year at this school, so at the end of the day, I will officially be a tenured teacher:-)

HH 5K Nov. - Week 8 (Pt. Deux), Day 2

Stinktacular workout today. It was pouring rain for hours this evening. By golly, I was prepared to go out in the rain and run anyway. HH calls for 2 miles today before my big (for me) 5K on Saturday. But it was just too crummy. So I dusted off our treadmill. I only used this treadmill TWO TIMES when we got it, oh, about five years ago (before the birth of our first child).

Great backup plan, but it was bittersweet.

I have no idea how to program the thing, if I can at all. I sucked wind for the first 10 min, saw that I was only going 4.2 mph and thought "No way, that is about a 15 min/mile, slower than what I usually do, what the heck???!!!" It was then I realized the freakin' incline was, well, inclined! Crud! Then I looked at the distance travelled--after 10 min, mind you, and it said ".25 miles." WHAT??!?!?!!!! NO WAY!!!!!!!????? Turns out the bugger resets each time you change speeds.

After that first 10 min, I decided to Gallowalk 2/1 because I thought my head was going to pop off from the tedium and the wind-sucking. Gallowalking saved the pathetic workout.

[<<obligatory stats> No stats. I have no earthly idea how far I went, but I was at it for about 26:00. < /obligatory stats>

Not a confidence builder going into my second-ever 5K this Sat, but the next time I write, I will be a 2-time 5Ker:-)

PS--What made me think of Gallowalking tonight? Glad you asked:-) I just bought Half Marathon, You CAN Do It by Jeff Galloway. Yep, I am thinking of doing one at the end of April. I suck wind at 3 miles but yet, can't get this out of my mind. I think I am most definitely in a mid-life crisis, thank goodness I have a supportive husband;-)

HH 5K Nov. - Week 8 (Pt. Deux), Day 1

Repeating HH Week 8 because the race I want to run is this coming weekend and not last weekend, needed to extend the program a week...

Class was cancelled tonight, woo hoo, ran at sunset, how refreshing to actually see the sidewalk for the first 1/4 of my run!

3.03 miles
34:22 (11:20/mile)

Temp was 70, humidity only 40%. I started off too fast, paid for it about 1/2 way through the run with some tummy cramps and general wind-sucking. But all was salvaged once again by slowing way down and I fell into a good, slow rhythm the last mile that guided me to the end.

Am I the only "runner" who feels, at the end of a run, when I'm walking the cooldown, like my legs are simply attached at the hip, that they are little rag doll appendages that basically hang off my hips. I always feel, I dunno, like I'm walking on stilts, or guiding two long wet noodles for legs as I walk home. Not pain, just temporarily empty of life. They always feel like part of my body again after one minute or so of walking. Just thought I'd share my newfound insight...

Good runs, all!
