Walking 2 miler

In a half hour. Ok, 15 minute mile as a walker. I did jog a block here and there, but it did tire me out a bunch, so the last mile I stuck to brisk walk.

This walking (as was running) is a welcome stress buster, at least for a half hour, lol.

2 more walking 3 milers

Wed - 3.4 miles
Friday (tonight) - 3.1 miles

Total this week: 9.9 miles!!! (ugh, wish I had broght the Garmin if I had known my weekly total would be such an untidy number)

Feeling it in my legs and gluteous maximus, lol. My body is in shock. Movement? Exercise?

Sad about Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. As a 70's kid, we kids played Charlie's Angels around the neighborhood (I was always Sabrina). And later on in middle school, I memorized the entire Thriller dance (I still know it)--that was the first VHS cassette we bought (for $30!!) for our shiny new VCR (with remote contol connected by a wire, lol). Peace.

3 mile walk

I was moving at a good clip, did about 3.4 miles in about 52 min.

Maybe I should be a walker, lol, instead of a runner.

What I love about my "running past" is that I didn't bat an eyelash at 3+ miles!

And after such a tough but moving Relay for Life experience, I have also decided to walk the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in NYC in 2010 with the husband of a 37-year old survivor friend of mine. So I better keep walking, if not jogging...

Peace to all my running friends:-)

Relay for Life 2009

My Relay 2009 Page

Tough end of the school year (nutty stress @ work, numerous end-of-year ceremonies for my kiddos and my students alike, lawyer and doc visits with my dad, etc., etc., excuses, excuses) and it rained here in NJ for like WEEKS with nary a day of sun. So I haven't gotten out much since last I wrote, maybe once after that.

BUT...I had committed to walking a HM for Relay for Life. Out of shape (out of my mind?), and I did it. Took about 5.5 hrs, lol, from about midnight to about 5:30 with a few 10-min breaks in there. I was hurting, but I was a woman on a mission. Our team got to hang the medals around the survivors before they began their Survivor Lap, it was so profound--I walked that lap with BOTH my parents two short years ago. Now one has passed away, and one has "beaten cancer" but is now in an assisted living due to dimentia essentially caused by the anasthesia. So wild what a few years can bring. But so many survivors at Relay that there was such optimism.

SO here are the stats: 13 miles. 1 Starbucks vanilla skim latte. 1 Taylor Ham & cheese sandwich. $595 raised ($65K by the whole Relay in our town).

Run One, Walk One

1.8 miles in about 25 min. Run 1, Walk 1. Getting a bit easier, this is the fourth day I've gotten out there. I am working on just getting out every other day.

Been wrapped up in Dad stuff. Found a lawyer yesterday, want to know how to proceed now that he cannot take care of bills and house. Took him to neurologist today to confirm that his memory will only get worse, not improve. I have to get back out there and get healthy for my own kids down the line.

Peace.

Two more to report

Got out there two more times...Sunday & Tuesday. 1.6 miles each time, about 1 min running and 1 or more min walking. Gotta start somewhere.

Off to continue Week 4 of 100 Pushups, yay!

Finally got out there

Finally got moving today...
1.5 miles, walked a lot of it, but got out there, it's about time! I'm trying...I'm trying...school is almost out, will have more time to get outside again.

I'm also in Week 3 of 100 Pushup Challenge. Miss being a part of your inspirational runner/triathlete community...!

Peace!

WW Update and Dad...

Now down 10 lbs!

Dad able to walk better and remains cancer-free, but his brain still impaired since the surgery, though it is improved. He knows who we are, remembers my mom is no longer here, but forgets things short term and needs a lot of reminders for stuff he needs to do (wash, etc.) throughout the day. Not going home anytime soon, if ever. But it could be so much worse, it really could. He has long-term care insurance, and seeing what has happened to him so unexpectedly, I would now advise anyone and everyone to think about investing in that. You never know what could happen; it's not cheap, but it's certainly cheaper than paying for assisted living or nursing home out of pocket. This concludes our public service message, lol.

Will start to jog--or walk--again, as the weather gets nicer. Walked .8 mile home from church last week and it was gooood. My son told me he wants to run another 5k, so I have to get on that!

We're off to France for Spring Break, me and the family. A little Eiffel Tower, Mont St. Michel and maybe a day at Disneyland Paris. Yippee!

Hope my running friends are going strong:-)
